So long Facebook, we had a good run.

So long Facebook, we had a good run.

This post is over 24 months old, that is an lifetime in tech! Please be mindful of that when reading this post as it could be outdated. I try to keep on top of changes where possible. I try to keep things up to date, but if you think something needs updating, please let me know in the comments.

I have been preparing to unplug from the matrix. I officially unplugged this week. In hindsight, it’s been a bit of a mad week to kick this off since it was SQL Bits week and being part of the helper team, I have spent a huge amount of time online at an online conference! I am a huge fan of the conference and actively contribute to the social side of it nevertheless, I have made conscious changes to how I have used my phone and it has certainly made a difference.

One change I hadn’t really planned as part of the unplug was deleting Facebook, which I did on Thursday. I have not had Facebook on my phone for some time and have consciously distanced myself from it for a while. This came about from becoming really tired with the amount of time I would spend in my feed despite how little I related to it. It’s littered with polarised views, spreading of unchecked falsities and chain-posts asking you to prove your solidarity against [insert illness here] by reading to the end of the post. It has lost its way.

My friends and family know where I am and can contact me on the same number I have had for the last 20 years to connect with me!
